Quick Protein Shakes

I’ve been having a hard time getting enough to eat recently due to my new schedule. Since I’m coaching at night a lot now, it’s hard to have a good sized dinner since I have to eat around 4pm, and I go to bed early enough that eating at 7:30-8:00pm isn’t a good option for me either :) I’ve decided to try to fix this problem by eating a little more in the morning. However, since I workout at 6am, I wasn’t really super excited to get up at 4am to eat prior to my workout. So, I’ve decided to get myself a shake all ready the night before and then just blend and drink it as soon as I get up before going into the gym. I’ve never been a huge shake person, but I have found a few recipes that I make for my husband that I do actually sort of like. He actually likes them a lot since he does like shakes in general. Here are two of our favorites, sized for for a larger person or meal. I make half the recipe for me before my workout.

Vanilla Berry Shake

6 oz milk of your choice
6 oz water
1/2 cup plain yogurt
2 scoops Vanilla Whey protein (or protein powder of choice)
1.5 cups frozen mixed berries (cherries are also good)
1 cup spinach
1 tablespoon flax meal
2 tablespoons walnuts
1 teaspoon fish oil

Calories: 486 Carbs: 40 Protein: 52 Fat: 13

Chocolate Cherry Shake

6 oz milk of your choice
6 oz water
1/2 cup plain yogurt
2 scoops Chocolate Whey protein (or protein powder of choice)
1.5 cups frozen cherries
1 cup spinach
1/2 tablespoon chia seeds
2 tablespoons sliced almonds
1 teaspoon fish oil
